Andrea Sosinski's Firo cooking set is a game-changer in the realm of outdoor cooking. It combines the allure of open fire, the pleasure of good food, and the stimulation of human interaction. The set can be used in any open fire setting - on the beach, in a fire bowl on the patio, or in an open fireplace in the living room. It is portable, flexible, and expandable, catering to up to 12 people by using additional "Gratino" eating bowls. The set includes everything one needs: an oven, cooking and eating bowls, cutlery, a blanket, gloves, and covers.
The Firo set is a blend of technical ceramic and porcelain, with metal cutlery designed to click into the hot bowl after cooking, ensuring easy handling without the risk of burns. All textiles are non-flammable, coming in shades of dark grey and orange. The set is currently a working concept and prototype, with Sosinski actively seeking a company for production and marketing.
Operating the Firo set is straightforward. The oven is placed halfway into an open fire, and the "Gratino" pots are filled with food and put in the oven. The oven remains in the fire and is handled like a drawer - open and close. Once the food is cooked, the multifunctional cutlery is clicked into the pot and carried out in an insulating bag for eating.
The design project, which began in April 2005 and concluded in July 2006 in Halle (Saale)/Germany, won the first prize "Designers' Open Award" at its first presentation in Leipzig/Germany. The design's key focus was user and food safety, and it involved extensive material research for high temperatures. The aim was to create a lightweight, multifunctional set that would revolutionize the experience of cooking and eating outdoors.
Andrea Sosinski's Firo cooking set was awarded Platinum in A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing and push the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
